Biggoron's Sword Trading quest in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a lengthy, elaborate quest line that sees you collecting and delivering all kinds of items to the people across Hyrule. Your hard work during this quest is incredibly worthwhile too, as it'll ultimately result in you receiving Biggoron's Sword, which is the strongest sword in the whole game. Yes, it's even stronger than the Master Sword; it deals twice as much damage, in fact!
To make sure you don't miss out on the best weapon in the game here's how to complete Biggoron's Sword Trading quest in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Zelda Ocarina of Time Biggoron's Sword Trading quest
Before you kick off Biggoron's Sword Trading quest in Ocarina of Time, there's a few things that you ought to do first. One of these is freeing King Zora from the red ice he ends up trapped in during Link's adult timeline, as you'll need to interact with him during this quest.
You can do this after visiting the Ice Cavern mini dungeon and getting Blue Fire you keep in a bottle there. Though, you may be able to do it earlier if you can get Blue Fire from either the Gerudo Proving Grounds or purchase it from the Potion Shop in Kakariko Village. I'd recommend choosing the Ice Cavern route however.
Secondly, it is highly recommended that you unlock Epona and/or Longshot to make traversal much quicker during this quest. Then last but not least, you should plant Magic Beans in the soft soil in both the Zora Domain and Death Mountain Trail during Link's child timeline. Again, this'll make traversal easier – and quicker – later on!
Housekeeping out of the way, the below list details all of your objectives – which each involve collecting and delivering items across Hyrule – during the Biggoron Sword Trading quest. You can also tick these off as and when you complete each objective to help keep track of where you're up to during this lengthy questline.
Otherwise, you can keep reading for more details on how to complete each delivery and ultimately get your hands on Biggoron's Sword!
- Collect the Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady.
- Hatch the Pocket Cucco and take it to Talon.
- Collect Cojiro from the Cucco Lady.
- Show Cojiro to the Master Craftsman's Son.
- Deliver the Odd Mushroom to Granny in the Potion Shop.
- Deliver the Old Poultice to the Master Craftsman's Son.
- Deliver the Poacher's Saw to the Master Craftsman and collect the Broken Goron Sword.
- Collect the Prescription from Biggoron.
- Take the Prescription to King Zora and collect the Eyeball Frog.
- Deliver the Eyeball Frog to Lake Hylia's laboratory.
- Deliver the Specialty Eye Drops to Biggoron.
- Wait three days and return to Biggoron to collect Biggoron's Sword.
1. Collect the Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady.
Your first delivery during the Biggoron Sword Trading quest line involves heading to Kakariko Village and speaking to the Cucco Lady in the ranch there as Adult Link. She will give you the Pocket Egg, which she explains can be used to wake up even the heaviest of sleepers once it hatches.
2. Hatch the Pocket Cucco and take it to Talon.
With the Pocket Egg in your possession, use the Sun's Song to pass the time. Afterwards, the Pocket Egg will have hatched into a Pocket Cucco, which means it's now time for us to use it to wake someone up…
Head to the house that's in the center of Kakariko Village next (this is where the carpenters live during Link's child timeline, and pictured below) and go over to the bed on the ground floor, where you'll find Talon sleeping. Interact with him to have the Pocket Cucco wake him up, at which point he'll say he's returning to Lon Lon Ranch.
Navi will now note that the cucco is happy. Return to the Cucco Lady from earlier next.
3. Collect Cojiro from the Cucco Lady.
Upon returning to and speaking with the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village, she'll note that Link's Pocket Cucco is incredibly happy and ask if you'd like to take care of a special Cucco, Cojiro.
Cojiro is a special cucco because he's blue! However, he is also blue in the metaphorical sense after his keeper – the Cucco Lady's brother – randomly left the Village. She'll now request that you try to reunite her brother and Cojiro.
4. Show Cojiro to the Master Craftsman's Son.
Next, make your way to the Lost Woods (which you can reach via Hyrule Field and Kokiri Forest). Once here, go through the left tree trunk and speak to the man that's sitting at the bottom of the tree stump in the next area. (This is the same tree stump that the Skull Kid was once standing on.)
The man is the Master Craftsman's Son, and upon talking to him, you'll be prompted to show him Cojiro.
After an emotional reunion, the Master Craftsman's Son will task you with delivering the Odd Mushroom to Granny in Kakariko Village's Potion Shop (Granny's Cauldron). However, there's one small caveat; you must complete this within the four minute time limit.
For what it's worth, you cannot use the Ocarina and the songs you have learnt on it to warp during these timed delivery quests. If you attempt to warp, Navi will warn you of the consequences. If you then choose to warp anyway, doing so will reset this step of the quest.
5. Deliver the Odd Mushroom to Granny in the Potion Shop.
It's now time to zip back to Kakariko Village as quickly as possible. To do this, use the following directions:
- Exit the area with the Master Craftsman's Son via the way you entered.
- Go straight ahead.
- Go left.
- Go straight ahead. You should now be in Goron City.
- Climb up the net on your left.
- Climb up the net directly in front of you.
- Go straight ahead and exit Goron City. You should now be on Death Mountain Trail.
- Sprint ahead and carefully drop down the cliff-edge where the rolling boulders are.
- Keep straight ahead (south on your map) and exit the Death Mountain Trail. You should now be in Kakariko Village.
- Enter the building on your immediate left and go through the wooden door behind the counter to exit again.
- Jump off the roof of the building in front of you and go up the stairs here. The building atop them is Granny's Cauldron!
Speak to Granny behind the counter and show her the Odd Mushroom. She will then turn the ingredient into Old Poultice, and request that you return it to the Master Craftsman's Son.
6. Deliver the Old Poultice to the Master Craftsman's Son.
You heard Granny! It's time to return to the Master Craftsman's Son in the Lost Woods and deliver the Old Poultice to him, and fortunately there's no time limit this time, so you can head there using whichever route you prefer.
Upon arriving back in Lost Woods however, you'll find that the Master Craftsman's Son has moved and been replaced with Fado. You'll then be prompted to show her the Old Poultice, and when she asks, give the item to her. She'll give you the Poacher's Saw in return.
She also implies that the Master Craftsman's Son has been turned into a Stalfos, and now I wonder if reuniting him with Cojiro was a good idea after all…
7. Deliver the Poacher's Saw to the Master Craftsman and collect the Broken Goron Sword.
Up next, you want to make your way to Gerudo Valley to deliver the Poacher's Saw to its rightful owner.
This is where you need either Epona or Longshot to continue the quest, as these are the only two ways of crossing the broken bridge in the area. (Though if you have rescued all of the Carpenters in Gerudo Fortress prior to this quest, the bridge will have been fixed.)
Once in Gerudo Valley, cross the bridge and speak to the Master Craftsman on the opposite side and show him the Poacher's Saw. Give it to him when prompted, and in exchange, he'll hand over the Broken Goron Sword.
8. Collect the Prescription from Biggoron.
The next step of the Biggoron Sword Trading quest line isn't all that obvious, but fortunately, this is the point where you can finally go and speak to Biggoron. With that in mind, you now need to head to his location atop the Death Mountain Trail.
To quickly get there, I recommend using the Bolero of Fire song to warp to Death Mountain Crater. Once you arrive there, go along the bridge to your left and use Longshot to cross the gap at the end of it. Then keep left and you should come to another wooden bridge you can cross.
After the second wooden bridge, go straight ahead and right to exit onto the top of the Death Mountain Trail. On your immediate left, you'll see Biggoron looming over the rocky cliffs. Speak to him!
First, Biggoron will complain that his eyes are too itchy for him to work (something I can relate to more often than I'd like) and the dialogue will end. Talk to him a second time to show him the Broken Goron Sword, and he'll then request that you go to King Zora in the Zora Domain and get him some eye drops so he can go back to work (and fix the sword).
Agree to help him and he'll take the Broken Goron Sword off your hands. In exchange, he gives you the Prescription to take to King Zora.
9. Take the Prescription to King Zora and collect the Eyeball Frog.
You now need to take Biggoron's Prescription to King Zora in the Zora Domain. The quickest way to reach the Zora Domain is by sprinting down Death Mountain Trail (south on your map) and exiting into Kakariko Village.
From here, go to Hyrule Field then take an immediate left to reach the entrance for the Zora River. Then, you no doubt know the route from here; pass through Zora River to enter the Zora Domain, then head up to King Zora's Chamber (which is just before the entrance to Zora Fountain).
This is where making sure that King Zora has been freed from the red ice in Link's adult timeline is important. Otherwise, you can't speak to him!
In case you are yet to do this, you'll need to visit the Ice Cavern mini dungeon and get the Blue Fire you can keep in a bottle there. This can then be used to thaw King Zora's icy prison. Though, you may be able to do it earlier if you can get Blue Fire from either the Gerudo Proving Grounds or purchase it from the Potion Shop in Kakariko Village. I'd recommend choosing the Ice Cavern route however.
Once in the Zora Domain, speak to King Zora to show him Biggoron's Prescription. He'll explain that he doesn't have any eye drops to hand, but he does have the key ingredient for them – the Eyeball Frog – which you can take to the scientist in the Lake Hylia laboratory. He'll also take the Prescription off of your hands during this conversation.
The Eyeball Frog is another perishable item, which means there's a time limit of two and a half minutes for this next delivery. This is fortunately easily done thanks to a very handy shortcut in this area!
10. Deliver the Eyeball Frog to Lake Hylia's laboratory.
Time is of the essence with our next delivery, and you now need to head to Lake Hylia's laboratory as quickly as possible. To do this, use the following directions:
- Face away from King Zora and follow the watery path on your right to reach a waterfall. (This is where the Diving Minigame takes place.)
- Jump off the waterfall and into the pool below.
- Go into the underwater portal in the pool to quickly reach Lake Hylia. (This is the stone doorway that's on the west of the pool on your map.)
- Emerge from the water and head onto the large patch of land next to you.
- On your right (facing north/northeast), enter the laboratory building.
Once inside Lake Hylia's laboratory, speak to the Lake Scientist and show him the Eyeball Frog when prompted.
The Lake Scientist will initially think you've brought him a tasty snack. When prompted to hand the item over, you can fortunately tell him to 'Make some eye drops!' and he'll oblige without issue! Next, wait for the Lake Scientist to do what he does best, and he'll shortly hand over some Specialty Eye Drops.
Now, it's time for your final challenge; deliver the Specialty Eye Drops to Biggoron within three and a half minutes.
11. Deliver the Specialty Eye Drops to Biggoron.
You now need to zip from Lake Hylia to the top of the Death Mountain Trail – which is quite the trek – in under three and a half minutes. To do this quickly, use the following directions:
- Dive back into Lake Hylia and go through the portal from earlier to reach the Zora Domain.
- Exit the Zora Domain by the northern exit on your map.
- In Zora River now, go down the staircase on your left and into the pool at the bottom of it. There's another underwater portal to go through here that'll take you to the Lost Woods.
- In Lost Woods now, go straight ahead.
- Go left next to arrive in Goron City.
- Go straight ahead and jump off the ledge here to reach the lower level of Goron City.
- Go right into Darunia's room and through the passage behind his statue to reach the Death Mountain Crater.
- Go right, along the wooden bridge, and through the southmost exit to reach the top of Death Mountain Trail (and Biggoron!).
If you follow the above directions, you should arrive at Biggoron with plenty of time to spare!
Next, speak to him and hand over the Specialty Eye Drops. In return, he'll give you the Biggoron Sword Receipt, which you can use to claim your shiny new Biggoron Sword once it's available to collect. Biggoron no doubt has a backlog of work to get through after his eye problems after all…
After receiving the Receipt, Biggoron will request that you come back to him in three days' time.
12. Wait three days and return to Biggoron to collect Biggoron's Sword.
Waiting three in-game days is no fun really, is it? Fortunately, this is where the Sun Song comes in clutch, as playing the song will pass half a day. In our experience, we had to play the Sun Song eight times in a row before Biggoron was finally ready to hand over the sword.
Once Biggoron is finally ready, he'll give you the Biggoron's Sword, allow you to keep your Receipt as a keepsake, and will also mention that the weapon must be wielded using two hands. This means you won't be able to use a shield while using Biggoron's Sword! That's worthwhile for the sheer amount of damage this weapon is capable of doing though…
While Biggoron's Sword is the strongest sword in the entirety of Ocarina of Time on paper, it's worth mentioning that you shouldn't take this weapon into the game's final boss fight. That's because the final boss takes reduced damage from all weapons that aren't the Master Sword. Bear this in mind, and remember to take the Master Sword with you into the game's final fight!
On top of that, after completing Biggoron's quest, the obstacle course at Lon Lon Ranch will be opened, and the Blue Potion will become available at Granny's Potion Shop in Kakariko Village. Winning the former – the obstacle course – allows you to add a Cow to Link's house, while the latter – the Blue Potion – restores both your Health and your Magic Meter upon use. Though, bear in mind that the Blue Potion will cost you 100 Rupees.
Otherwise, that's all for Biggoron's Sword Trading quest! For more on Link's adventure in Ocarina of Time, take a look at where to find all Empty Bottles, where to find all Gold Skulltula Tokens, and all Big Poe locations.
