After more than a decade of ownership, Ubisoft has closed down RedLynx, the developer behind the long-running Trials series. It’s unclear what led to the decision, but the studio hasn’t been publicly working on a standalone game since the launch of Trials Rising in 2019.
Following mandated discussions with Finnish authorities, Ubisoft closed the studio down, per a statement sent to Eurogamer. To add insult to injury, beyond RedLynx, which saw 52 positions affected, there was also a massive bout of layoffs at Ubisoft Singapore — to the tune of 70 people — in order to “align the studio with upcoming production needs.”
This sort of shuffle shouldn’t be that surprising, Ubisoft has been making sweeping changes to its structure, with the introduction of Vantage Studios, which handles a solid number of its high-profile IPs, namely Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six Siege, and Far Cry. Meanwhile, Ubisoft Massive takes the reigns of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.
In case Ubisoft Singapore doesn’t ring a bell, it’s the same studio that’s hot off Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. RedLynx, meanwhile, is mostly just known for the Trials series, which has been its flagship franchise since it launched as its debut game back in 2000. It wasn’t until 2011 that Ubi bought the studio.
