The Blood of Dawnwalker sword shard locations

The Forge It Anew set of side quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker are something you can easily run into by accident, and they'll ultimately task you with finding three sword shard locations so that you can reforge and claim the Sword of St. Mihai as your own.

As one of the best swords in the game, you don't want to neglect the Forge It Anew quests. To help you out with them, I've detailed where to find all three sword shard locations in The Blood of Dawnwalker in this guide, as well as how to reforge St. Mihai's sword (and upgrade it).

1. Find Sword Shard 1 by completing Forge It Anew: Do Not Disturb.
2. Find Sword Shard 2 by completing Forge It Anew: Executive Order.
3. Find Sword Shard 3 by completing Forge It Anew: Hostile Takeover.
4. Find the broken sword of St. Mihai (if you don't already have it).
5. Find the Uriashi Blacksmith and reforge the Sword of St. Mihai.
6. 'Complete' the sword with a ritual.

Sword Shard 1 location - Forge It Anew: Do Not Disturb

The location of the first Sword Shard is tied to side quest, Forge It Anew: Do Not Disturb. You can kick this quest off by approaching the abandoned camp in northern Maragir, and investigating the area using Focus Mode.

While investigating the camp, you'll find the Florin's Orders Note, as well as a hand symbol on the rock beside it. There'll also be a trail you can follow which ultimately leads to a small cave entrance.

Inside, kill the Kobolds that are nesting here and then interact with the shrine to claim the first Sword Shard, which will consume three time segments. Two more to go.

Sword Shard 2 location - Forge It Anew: Executive Order

The second Sword Shard is tied to the Forge It Anew: Executive Order side quest, which takes place in a cave located east of Tantari Woods.

More specifically, it's northeast of Birch Woodlet Shrine and southeast of the old inn where you meet Anca at the beginning of the 'Echoes of the Silenced Bells' main quest. Its location is marked on the map below.

Enter the cave, where you'll find multiple corpses. Loot the bodies here, and then use Focus Mode to inspect the rest of the cave. There are two paintings on the wall to interact with, shown below.

One of these paintings is a map, showing off all three locations of the sword shards you need to find. You'll have found one already, and Coen will now ask where the one inside this cave must be residing…

If you investigate all the bodies and shrines within this cave, you'll soon learn that the sword shard that resided here must have been taken to a soldier's camp. The camp will fortunately be marked on your map 900m+ away, over in the heart of Tantari Woods and west of the Drunken Bear Inn. It's shown on the map below.

At the camp, you can optionally scout out the area from above. When you're ready, clear out the soldiers and use Focus Mode to inspect the area. You'll find the second Sword Shard inside the tent on the rightmost side of the camp (pictured below), alongside a Letter from Xanthe.

Before leaving here, it's also worth talking to the prisoner in the camp too and deciding what to do with him.

Sword Shard 3 location - Forge It Anew: Hostile Takeover

The third and final Sword Shard is tied to the Forge It Anew: Hostile Takeover side quest located in the north of the Rockfalls region, near Shrike's Crag. Its location is shown on the map below.

To reach this cave, you want to fast-travel to the Giant's Pawns Shrine that's north of the rockfalls and within the forest. Here, there's two Ravenous Bears to deal with, but once they're taken care of, you can continue following the path north and then west to ultimately reach the cave.

Inside the cave, you'll find yourself in another Kobold nest, except all the Kobolds here have since been cleaned out by a single Munch Munch. Defeat the Munch Munch and then inspect the cave using Focus Mode.

There are two paintings here; one of them being a map of all the Sword Shards that we'll have seen before, and another that tells the story of the Kobolds and their shiny shards.

Loot the Shrine here (pictured below), to receive the third Sword Shard. This will consume three time segments.

Coen will note that you now have the whole blade, but it's still missing the hilt that the sword shards need attaching to.

At this stage in the Forge It Anew quests, you'll be prompted to visit the Uriashi Blacksmith. However, she won't be able to do much without the missing broken sword – the hilt – that the Sword Shards ultimately need attaching to, so you'll need to go and grab that first.

Where to find the Uriashi Blacksmith in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Fortunately, the Forge It Anew quest labels the location of the Uriashi Blacksmith on your map, and they're all the way up in the northeasternmost corner of the Briar Sloughs region, beside the Uriashi Hermitage Shrine. I've shown their location on the below map.

To reach the Uriashi Blacksmith, I personally fast-travelled to the Stelian's Redoubt Shrine that's southwest of Sloughside Mill (which you'll have visited during the 'The Firebrand' quest). From here, I went northwest through the forest, collecting the Briar Slough Hillock Shrine along the way, before arriving at the Uriashi Blacksmith's dwellings.

Speak to the Uriashi Blacksmith and tell her the following:

1. I heard about you.
2. I want to kill Brencis.
3. I've found this silver blade shard…

If you already have these items, you can hand over all of the sword shards and she'll give you the Reforged Sword of St. Mihai. She'll also mention that the sword isn't yet complete however…

How to 'complete' the sword of St. Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker

To complete the sword of St. Mihai, travel to the location that the Uriashi Blacksmith has marked on your map, which is about 200 meters northwest of her Uriashi Hermitage.

This will lead you to a cave entrance covered in bloody vines that you'll first need to destroy. Inside, there'll be a chamber full of undead enemies to defeat next.

At the end of the cave, you'll reach an altar where you can perform a ritual. Doing so reveals a boss enemy, the Echoing Anger, who summons three waves of various undead creatures that you'll now need to fend off.

After the fight, you'll need to complete the ritual, which requires three time segments.

You'll now receive the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, which is one of the best swords in the game and a weapon that'll no doubt help you with taking down Brencis and his boyars. Well done!
