Onimusha Way Of The Sword Hits 1 Million Sales On Its First Day

Capcom has announced that sales of Onimusha: Way of the Sword have hit one million worldwide in its first day of release, bringing franchise sales to over 10 million units globally.

In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently. The company is working to further maximize corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, including this title,” said the company in a press release.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword sees players hopping into the role of Miyamoto Musashi, who is based on the appearance of Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese actor who appeared in more than 180 different roles including Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, and the Hidden Fortress. It’s the first major entry in the Onimusha series in 20 years.

Players follow Musashi as he explores a dark fantasy version of Kyoto during the Edo period, where he battles against demonic swordsmen and other supernatural threats. Equipped with a powerful sword, Musashi is able to strike and parry opponents, while depleting his foes’ stamina will allow you to utilise the Break Issen mechanic, which dismembers enemies for a swift kill.
